Politics. Show Business For Ugly People.

And there's no business like it, with the divisional lines between reality and fiction further being blurred this week by the American Supreme Court:

Not that they need encouragement, but politicians have been given the green light to lie about their opponents by the Washington state Supreme Court.

More than a dozen states have laws that make it illegal to say false things about political candidates. The laws are, in practice, aspirational. By a 5-to-4 vote Thursday, the Supreme Court in Washington state added that the law in the state was also unconstitutional.

[The International Herald Tribune]

Politicians begun exploiting the new ruling immediately, although no one seemed to be able to tell the difference.

I would just like to point out that although the government of a country should always be seen as a source of moral guidance, I am loathe to emulate my political contemporaries in this instance. If there's one thing that my years as a cage fighter in Brazil taught me, its to always be honest about your opponents.

Granted, it's not your quote, but if politics is 'show business for ugly people', find a way to explain Lisa McCune.

Dare ya.

Oh Jo, that's priceless. It's comforting to know I'm not the only one who wonders, why Lisa? She's not hot or even particulary pretty. Bizarrely, I like her in the Coles ads, but that's it.

Isn't it amazing how lying about and vilifying another human being is 'unconstitutional'? But politics is a dirty game for mostly grubby people.

no no, that's the point, it's been deemed unconstitutional to say that people CAN'T lie about each other.

For instance, say we lived in America, it would be hurting the troops NOT to say that you have shady history in prostitutional gambling, Blakkat.

And Jo, while you and McCune used to have a torrid 3-way love affair going with Ray 'the Stingray' Martin, I'm not sure if its in our country's best interests to muck rake it here.

Ps. Can someone explain to me when McCune got involved with politics? I feel like I'm in bizarro world.

That's so bizarre. And so blatant! Them darn yanks always have me scratching my head (the ones in power at least - I have met many other yanks that are quite lovely people... and they must all surely be despairing and ready to move to Canada)!
